so i dont know if this has been done before but i cant see it anywhere on here so:

Tell us your favourite proverb!
I think we have people from quite a few places on this forum so it would be nice to hear some foreign ones too!

heres my contribution:

since i moved to Egypt ive heard some interesting ones:

"News that’s for money today will be for free tomorrow"

"Those who had some shame are dead."
( People don’t have boundaries anymore.)

"Cover your candle, it will light more"
dont tell everyone your achievments/dont brag

"He whose house is made out of glass, shouldn’t throw stones at people."
Think of the consequences before taking actions; you may be more liable to get harmed.

and my all time favourite:

"If you marry a monkey for his wealth, the money goes and the monkey remains as is."
dont get married for money becuase it wont bring you happiness.

Hope you enjoyed them, id love to hear everyone's favourite proverb

More tears are shed over answered prayers than unanswered ones. -Saint Teresa

The dogs bark but the caravan moves on. -Arab Proverb

And now... URUGUAYAN PROVERBS:

Don't take every ill to the doctor, or every quarrel to the lawyer, or every thirst to the tavern.

Time will give you the best disguise.

Words fly, writing endures.

Singing drive troubles away.

I like the "Cover your candle, it will light more" a lot :)

Not sure if it is a proverb, but... "You have to be, don't just seem".
It means you have to be who you really want to be and don't just act to please others.

A religiously inspired one:
"If god guides you to it, god will guide you through it"

Also, during my time living in Dublin one that I found funny:
"Always think positive, think Irish!" :)
Keep it flaming your desire, always rising higher - Aim for stars and hit the sky
(Echo & The Bunnymen - Evergreen, 1996)

Capital punishment = murder

These are from Italy :

"You are all smoke and no roast" ( English version is You are all mouth and no trousers)

"You wanted to bike so now cycle !" ( English = you made your bed so now lay in it)

AND MY ALL TIME FAVOURITE ( I use it often at work):

"The orchestra changes but the music is always the same".
