The US presidential election is freakin' killing me I am so nervous! I am in a super left wing town in a super left wing state and I have to keep reminding myself of that so I don't get my hopes up too high that this election will go any better than the last 2 did

It is awesome that Obama won this. The whole world was hoping for this to happen, but then we all remembered what happened in 2000 and 2004 ... Luckily we saw an honest election this time, with a well deserved winner. It is a pity that the new president has such a big mess to clean up, left behind by his precedent. But then, if anyone is capable of cleaning up that mess, I do believe Obama is able to do so. He definitely deserves the benefit of the doubt. And to see it was a landslide victory, makes it even more brilliant.

PS: this Sarah Palin character was a total joke. McCain ruined his own chances by electing her. Probably trying to get the very conservative voters in Bible Belt states behind him, but then those vote Republican anyway, so his choice was very unlucky. Anyway, not complaining whatsoever, we are finally rid of Republic suppression.

i'm really glad that barrack obama won. everyone has such high hopes for him (america seems to have become way more popular overnight!) and i really hope he can live up to them - he'll probably be under a heck of a lot of scrutiny and pressure from now on.
the republican party seems to have become full of religious fundamentalism and nationalism lately, and the world doesn't need any more of that sort of thing, there's more than enough already. if they want to live their lives according to their religious beliefs then that's their choice, but i don't like the way they force the rest of the country to adhere to them too and then brag about "freedom." i felt sorry for john mccain because AFAIK he seemed more like the old type of republican than the new crazy type, and i'm really scared that the republicans are going to continue moving towards the crazy in the future... but at least we won't have to worry about them being in power for a while now.

Is this not against the constitution anyway which provides separation of church and state? Because the ONLY valid argument against gay marriage can be a religious argument, which however should be void in a secular country.

I can understand a church organised wedding is not open for gay couples because the church is like a club and I guess every club sets the rules in their own club house (why would someone want to belong to a discriminating club?? but that is a different matter I guess) , however legal marriage officialised by city hall is subject to the civil law, not? And civil law provides laws against discrimination, including discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation.

There should have not even been a vote about this subject, a fully secular country has simply no legal grounds to forbid gay marriage.
