Tango? Salsa? I'm not sure, but this is kinda charming - <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tidCjU9BoA&search=smiths%20cover" target="_blank">Ask...</a>

Truly '<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVS45zNBmdQ&search=smiths%20cover" target="_blank">Unlovable</a>'?

An interesting <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L98H-vgNoZE&search=smiths%20cover" target="_blank">interpretation</a> of a classic. I couldn't tell what song it was for quite a while.

Oh....and <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIETaskUkmo&search=smiths%20cover" target="_blank">how it should be done</a>

I liked the Belle and Sebastian's one, but the others are quite pathetic... It's always tough to accept other people's versions of smiths' songs.

that 'ask' one was terrible! :o
belle and sebastian did an alright job i thought.
the unlovable one made me laugh cause the singer looks like a chubbier bob mortimer :)

Compared to the others though? I thought it was sweet enough, really...

Hey, there are some musicians on this forum... maybe we should start a 'Strangeways Sings the Smiths' topic... maybe we could make a nice tribute to our loved mancunian band.
Last night I recorded an acoustic version of There Is a Light That Never Goes Out, and I would love to share it with you guys... I think we can do it better than that Coldplay jerk.

That is a great idea!

Maybe two songs each though? I dunno - let's see who volunteers :D

I like the girl doing how soon is now, the way she's done her own thing with it is really cool.

Im not too fond of any of the other ones.

Thats not a smiths cover in itself, but hes doing rather good work of playing a great song.

A shoeless child on a swing
Reminds you of your own again
She took away your troubles
Oh, but then again
She left pain
So, please save your life
Because you've only got one

Belle and Sebastian cover is lovely, and the unlovable one isn't too bad I guess.

Soudns like a grand idea for people to do their own covers on the forum, as long as people don't get too offended?

I used to have an mp3 of Jeff Buckley covering "TBWTTIHS" at a gig; it was lovely. I wish I still had it. :(
