The only Smiths tribute band based in the North West (well ok it's Liverpool rather than Manchester) called The Smiths Indeed are looking to tour the US next year and play the following cities to co-incide with Morrissey's 50th birthday:

Mansfield, MA
Boston, MA
New York, NY
Philadelphia, PA
Washington DC
Cleveland, OH
Pittsburgh, PA
Detroit, MI
Chicago, IL
Milwaukee, WI
Santa Barbara, CA
Los Angeles, CA
Laguna Hills, CA
San Diego, CA
San Francisco, CA
Phoenix, AZ
Boulder, CO
Houston, TX
Dallas, TX
New Orleans, PO
St Petersburg, FL

Does anyone in the US know of suitable venues in these cities where they have booked tribute bands before? These were the cities played on the bands' Meat Is Murder/Queen Is Dead tour. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Here are links to some live recordings to give you an idea:

I think The Smiths are iconic enough to find your venues, even when they never did tribute bands before. Much depends on how big you want the venue. Would you accept the regular local club hosting 500 people maximum, or do you want it to be bigger?

A pal of mine wanted to do some USA gigs in singer songwriter clubs and found a few venues... But they were more or less big cafes rather than real concert halls. If you would settle with that I would not expect any problems to find places to play in any place in the world where the band had some sort of following.

I am a Californian in none of these places, but an hour from san francisco in a place called Santa Cruz- you could try here at the catalyst (i went with Boxguy to see a show there, he can vouch for how great it is) or the Vets Hall, which is far smaller and won't draw such a crowd, then there is the attic-once again, small. Thats all I can say though, sorry!
