Can't say I've heard that, I am such a rubbish Morrissey fan.

Ah no, it's a B-side from way back when that hasn't turned up on the many compilations over the years. One of those songs where a tune makes a cameo appearance!

"Love, peace and harmony ?
Love, peace and harmony ?
Oh, very nice
Very nice
Very nice
Very nice
...But maybe in the next world."

"I know it's over
And it never really began
But in my heart it was so real
And you even spoke to me, and said :
"If you're so funny
Then why are you on your own tonight ?
And if you're so clever
Then why are you on your own tonight ?
If you're so very entertaining
Then why are you on your own tonight ?
If you're so very good-looking
Why do you sleep alone tonight ?
I know ...
'Cause tonight is just like any other night
That's why you're on your own tonight
With your triumphs and your charms
While they're in each other's arms...""

"And the flesh you so fancifully fry
Is not succulent, tasty or kind
It's death for no reason
And death for no reason is MURDER." (Yes, it is!)

"And if you have five seconds to spare
Then I'll tell you the story of my life :
Sixteen, clumsy and shy
I went to London and I
I booked myself in at the Y ... W.C.A.
I said : "I like it here - can I stay ?
I like it here - can I stay ?
Do you have a vacancy
For a Back-scrubber?""

Some more from me:

You had no real way of knowing
In my heart I begged "Take me with you ...
I don't care where you're going..."

................
Upon the sand, upon the bay
"There is a quick and easy way" you say
Before you illustrate
I'd rather state :

"I'm not the man you think I am
I'm not the man you think I am"
...........
Girl afraid
Where do his intentions lay ?

Or does he even have any ?

She says :

"He never really looks at me
I give him every opportunity"

I could've been wild and I could've been free
But nature played this trick on me.

It's his phrasing and the rhythm of it that make it so priceless.

Hmm, me too... I know it's music and not lyrics, but I love that guitar coda at the end. Just because it's so unexpected and practically unrelated to the rest of the song.

woah i dont know how to pick fav lyrics, even in the not so good songs, morrissey still shows genius in many lines. Still its worth picking out some lyrics anyway......
And Sorrow's native son
He will not rise for anyone

And Pretty Girls Make Graves
Oh really ?
Oh ...

I could have been wild and I could have
Been free
But Nature played this trick on me

She wants it Now
And she will not wait
But she's too rough
And I'm too delicate

Then, on the sand
Another man, he takes her hand
A smile lights up her stupid face
(and well, it would)

-
The rain falls hard on a humdrum town
This town has dragged you down
-
Boy afraid
Prudence never pays

And everything she wants costs money

"But she doesn't even LIKE me !
And I know because she said so
In the room downstairs
She sat and stared
In the room downstairs
She sat and stared
I'll never make that mistake again !"

-
I dreamt about you last night
And I fell out of bed twice
You can pin and mount me like a butterfly
But "take me to the haven of your bed"
Was something that you never said
Two lumps, please
You're the bee's knees
But so am I
-
And when I'm lying in my bed
I think about life
And I think about death
And neither one particularly appeals to me
-

Absoloutely, I would probably add "I lost my faith in womanhood" onto the end of that.

I know its over, and it never really began, but in my heart it was so real
and you spoke to me and said
"If you're so funny, then why are you on your own tonight?
and if you're so clever, then why are you on your own tonight?
Because tonight is just like any other night
thats why you're on your own tonight"

Oh, I love the lirycs to I Know It's Over - but they make me really sad. I usually perceive Morrissey's lirycs from their witty and clever and ironic side - but not this song. Probably the only Smiths' track that saddens me.

Yeah it has a similar effect on me, but also kind of uplifting. Like, if I'm feeling like that its good to know that someone else is feeling the same way. although that is my favourite part of I Know Its Over I could have nominated pretty much all of it for favourite lyrics.

"I walked a pace behind you at the soundcheck
You're just the same as I am
What makes most people feel happy
Leads us headlong into harm"

and

"And if you ever need self-validation
Just meet me in the alley by the
Railway station"
