satan rejected my soul

I've changed my plea to guilty

you knew I couldn't last
Here is London, giddy London
Is it home of the free, or what?

William, it was really nothing - it's trying to pretend that what happened wasn't that important but of course the very opposite is true. In fact, there are other brilliant lines in this song too :

..and everybody's got to live their life, and God knows I've got to live mine...

1. Panic -- short but a direct indication of a theme often recurring in their songs, the title sounds anxious and gloomy and therefor curiosity for the song is there
2. There is a light that never goes out -- hopeful, poetic, I'd even say it has an intellectual touch
3. A rush and a push and the land is ours -- it's bizarre and somewhat strange (the length alone) but gets one curious to hear the full lyric
4. Some girls are bigger than others -- Morrissey bizarrity
5. Last night I dreamt that somebody loved me

In the category of gloomy songs I could have also nominated Pretty Girls Make Graves, Last Night I Dreamt Somebody Loved Me, Girl Afraid or Cemetry Gates, but I think Panic is short and sweet and the best title in this category. In general the Smiths are a great band when it comes to choosing song titles.
Keep it flaming your desire, always rising higher - Aim for stars and hit the sky
