Just a thought

For all things concerning Moz's solo career.

I don't know if anybody will follow my train of thought here, but the jaunty melodies of tracks like "Our Frank" , "King Leer" and "Sing Your Life" remind me of something like Joseph's Technicoloured Raincoat (or whatever it's called, the one Harry Hill took the piss out of). "Driving Your girlfriend Home" is also almost ridiculously melodic, it would fit in perfectly in the West End. (sublime and ridiculous at the same time, no-one does it better than Moz, and I think he does it on purpose).

As for "There's A Place In Hell For Me And My Friends", it really reminds me of a particular song a little girl sings in Les Miserables about going away to a special place in her sleep (my mum loves all the musicals and played them all the time, we aslo used to go and watch a few.)

Harsh Truth Of The Camera Eye also reminds me of "Don't You Know TheDevil's Got Your Number" from Blood Brothes (the sort of play I think Moz could have written!) I love the way the music evokes madness, reminds of the menacing jazz they play when blanche DuBois has her flashbacks in Streetcar.

I'm certainly not trying to put down Kill Uncle with this thread, I think it's a very interesting and experimental album, and most of the time it comes off. Has anyone noticed a lot of the songs are very "narrative" - in many ways it's the exact opposite of Vauxhall And I. Proof Moz can take two completely different styles and do them both exceptionally well.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Two words: Sweeny Todd.

(for those of you who don't know, thats the demon barber of fleet street)
A note upon his desk
"P.S. Bring Me Home And Have Me!"
Leather elbows on a tweed coat
-Oh!-
Is THAT the best you can do ?
So came his reply :
"But on the desk is where I want you!"

After the rape of his wife, the nice gentlemanly barber Sweeney Todd disappears (in the local production, he was arrested and killed) and his daugher is adopted by the very Judge that raped the mother (who supposedly took poison). He goes through hell and back to get his revenge, he starts a barbering business but is recognized by an old rival, whom he murders and has the woman he has taken lodgings with (Mrs. Lovett) make into meat pies. The meat pies are delicious and eaten abundantly by all so more people must be murdered to keep business up. A cast of characters enter (Toby the orphan, a sailor, Johanna- daughter of Sweeney, and a crazy woman) as Sweeney executes his plans to kill the evil Beadle, the Judge and have his whole revenge. There is an insane asylum, a cellar full of the dead and many tragic deaths- some characters reappear and it ends just as it had begun- with the dumping of the body of Sweeney.

How does it relate to Moz? The lyrics of course!

Nothing's gonna harm you, not while I'm around.
Nothing's gonna harm you, no sir, not while I'm around.

Demons are prowling everywhere, nowadays,
I'll send 'em howling,
I don't care, I got ways.

No one's gonna hurt you,
No one's gonna dare.
Others can desert you,
Not to worry, whistle, I'll be there.

Demons'll charm you with a smile, for a while,
But in time...
Nothing can harm you
Not while I'm around...

Being close and being clever
Ain't like being true
I don't need to,
I would never hide a thing from you,
Like some...

No one's gonna hurt you, no one's gonna dare
Others can desert you,
Not to worry, whistle, I'll be there!
Demons'll charm you with a smile, for a while
But in time...
Nothing can harm you
Not while I'm around...

Sound like a Mozza song to anybody else??

Haha!! Excellent! What are you auditioning for? Are you primarily an actor or a singer? Break a leg!! And remember, while auditioning never make eye contact with the panel, it scares them. And don't apologize. Yay! I hope you get a good part!!!
