Wow. I see that this news is a week or so old, yet it's new to me...

Quite incredible. I wonder who initiated this. Fingers crossed that their talents combine in a positive way.

I can't wait for this- I absolutely love Good News for People Who Love Bad News, and if the new one is anything as great as it, + Johnny = Image

Apparently Johnny is working on the new Modest Mouse album:

'Johnny Marr, the former Smiths guitarist, has "been flying to Portland from Manchester to write songs" with Isaac Brock, well, that would be pretty orgasmic news for people who love Modest Mouse. And the Smiths.

That's all we know about that right now, but hey, isn't that enough? Johnny Marr is working with Modest Mouse! Get excited!

Marr has been awfully busy lately. He's working with Lisa Germano on her forthcoming album on Young God. He also recently recorded five songs with French New Wave queen Jane Birkin for her forthcoming album, which also features Rufus Wainwright, Beth Gibbons, Neil Hannon, Tom Waits, and Kate Bush, and is being produced by Gonzales. Yes, the Peaches Gonzales.

Marr is also cooking up the second album from his band the Healers.'

Merged topics.

I really hope this comes to something, as Johnny Marr could learn a few things from Brock.

I just found out MM is playing some dates in Anaheim (where I saw Moz) and L.A. (where I saw B&S). Both great venues. They're playing tomorrow and the next couple of days. It's bad timing on my end, (it is out of town), but I hope I don't regret saying I'm not going out of my way to see Johnny play!
I'm sure something will pop up on Youtube.

And another thought I just had. I've listened to some older MM songs, Brock's guitars sound nice, very distinct. I just wonder in what way Johnny can add to an already good sound. Hmm...

So, if anyone comes across any reviews of the MM gigs, please advise!
I would have thought something would have been mentioned about Johnny's first gig with them.

oooh this is cool! i didnt realise he was actualy going to be on stage with them,i thought it was more behind the scenes collaboration he was going to be doing! maybe modest mouse will go back to how some of their older stuff sounded then, i think 'good news..' didnt have the same energy and everything as some older stuff, oh well should be intersting to see! i love collaborations! :D

Concert footage has finally surfaced. (The quality is crap.) I've only checked out two.
BUT, to the far left is a guitar legend, apparently unbeknownst to the person taping the footage. <_<

Here's a better quality video, sounds good. I'm partial to a bit of MM so I've been intrigued ever since hearing of it.

Thanks for the link!

Well the good news is that I'm going to try to get tickets for Modest Mouse coming my way in 3 weeks. I don't know how many more opportunities I'll get to see Johnny.

The bad news: it's part of a radio station's first annual 'Holiday Hootenanny'--(gawd) of four bands and at a large arena. I was hoping for a small venue. But The Shins are also playing (!) along with Pete Yorn and the Silversun Pickups. I do like the line-up.

I'm actually liking what I hear so far. Anything live rarely sounds great so I'm hopeful with the new record.

edit: so I click on the main page to the link and I see Of Montreal is coming to town! I dunno about that date though :( But my neighbor's daughter will be thrilled when I tell her. She's the only other (tangible) person I know who knows who they are.

Well the Modest Mouse and Shins concert seems like ages ago and I just haven't had a chance to say anything about the gig. But I have to say I was so taken with seeing Johnny play at a mere 15 feet away I was just in awe the entire time. It was such an emotional moment for me. Now I know he's human after all.

I have plenty of pics from my sister's camera that I'll upload from the show when I get them from her. And I found out a friend of mine's daughter met him backstage. He told her he's returning here in February or March.
