Well, after our break whilst we sorted our lives out, we've teamed up with Bartok to present

The Penelope Tree
'At it's Sunday Best'.

From now on we'll be the 2nd and 4th Sundays at

Chalk Farm Road

nearest tube Chalk Farm

8pm - midnight

featuring DJ's Hatty
Special guests ( we've got some crackers lined up!!)

Get there early for 'Chimes's all round the houses quiz', 'cos all that silly stuff will be over by 9, and then it's a chance to stand around gazing at your shoes, or preferably show us your moves!!

Hatty and Chimes will be spinning their usual mix of girl garage, Rough Trade and Cherry Red rarities, New Wave, French and 60’s pop and current bedroom pop…..and Hatty's latest obsession - 1940's/50's big band swingy stuff...

TPT plays;

The Would-Be-Goods, Delta 5, St Etienne, The Undertones, The Popinjays, Girls at our Best!, Ballboy, Felt, Piney Gir, Belle and Sebastian, Young Marble Giants, The Passions, Jilted John, Ruth Brown, Camera Obscura, Life Without Buildings, The The, Josef K, Comet Gain, Doris, Kicker, The Projects, Dexys, Microdisney, Wet Dog, The Schla la las, The Road Runners, Shangri-Las, Morrissey, Yum-Yums, Beach Boys: Ska, French Pop, Northern Soul, 60's pop & garage and early Rough Trade and the like...

As some of you are doubtless aware, super mod night 'Novelty' is on on the other Sundays at Bartok. We are alternating with them as the philosphy is the same;
Forget all that laid back winding down on a Sunday stuff. We want the weekend to last a bit longer, thank you very much.

(we're in the middle of building our new website, so here's a link to the old one - but remember, the venue is now Bartok - not the one listed herein. But have a look at the message board/pics etc...http://www.thepenelopetree.co.uk/)

Sorry - don't know what's going on there, but the site address is
http://www.thepenelopetree.co.uk/
although the venue is now Bartok, Chalk Farm Road...

Incidentally, on the tube last night I listened to 'These Things Take Time' on my ipod, and it sounded so fantastic, even after all these years, I think that'll be on the playlist for next Sunday...
I'm very conscious of 'lazy DJing' - ie playing 'This Charming Man' or 'What Difference Does It Make' just to fill up the dancefloor. That's not what we're about at all, hence not really listing them. Other nights can do that. But it gives us the freedom to play things like the above or 'girl Afraid', for example. Hmmm.
Anyway. Carry on!! Image

Am just finishing writing the quiz...would strongly recommend early attendance to take part. Particularly as one question will refer to 'the 8.42 Express'...ie, what was playing at that point. Oh, and the fact that it's over by 9. Entries in by 9.10. Look forward to rounds on Space, Royalty, Bjork and Wireless , amongst others. Get swotting!

I've no problem with you continuing to update this thread but I've moved it to the music forum as it seemed more relevant Image

And I played both 'Girl Afraid' and 'These Things Take Time' (session version) the other night. So for this Sunday - the 24th July - what do we fancy? Hmmm.' I want the one I can't Have' at the very least. Probably 'Accept Yourself' and 'Irish Blood, English Heart' too.
