To be honest, I don't even mind if no-one else likes them. To my mind, they were the best, or at least most consistently great band of the 90's.

But now I've started the thread, I may as well ask, do we all adore them?

Sorry, I have to admit I never really got it. Always assumed the problem was with me.

That's a real shame, and I'm afraid I can only agree with your diagnosis.

The first album (Slanted & Enchanted) is hard to get into, but the next one (Crooked Rain Crooked Rain) is a masterpiece, and it remains bloody good from then on.

Pavement's one of my favorite bands of the '90s. Slanted and Enchanted's my favorite, then CR/CR, then wowee zowee. Most of the other stuff, however, hasn't held my interest. I don't know if I'd say they're the best band of the '90s. but they're up there.

Possibly my two favourite songs, along with 'Elevate Me Later', perhaps.

'Harness Your Hopes' is also great, and at the risk of sounding delibrately obscurist (it's a b-side), essential listening.

Apparently Malkmus' latest album is dead good, so should be a good gig. Hope you enjoy it!

One of those groups whose name I've heard tossed around but never really to a lot of. I have read more about them than listened to their music, trying to 'get them'. I do love the strong guitar sounds and only a certain style of theirs holds my interest, like Gold Soundz, Major Leagues, Zurich is Stained, Grave Architecture. But the noisy guitars I can't get into as much, I'm afraid. They're one of those important bands that were slightly off my radar. Hm, hunts for Passat Dream....
