i've had "atlas" marked on my page since it was first mentioned here.
strange how all my favs on youtube are predominately international. :D

i love Indian music as well, and Ravi Shankar is the best. (of course that has no relation to what he said about G. Harrison :D ). if you are a total musical theory geek such as myself, thismay overturn your perception of music itself. 108 beat cycles? 95% improvised?
:)
thanks for atlas, ruby. great tune!!

Folk-wise I'm mainly into Irish stuff (not the dancable ones but the more mysterious material, such as Clannad, Moira Brennan and Enya do) and Arab music.

Also, check out Belgium's folk pride Lais: http://www.lais.be
Three women with angel voices, singing somewhat modern music based on ancient medieval Dutch and French tunes. The music is modernised but still sticking to the old tunes a lot, and the lyrics are often in the ancient forms of Dutch/French.

Also recommendable is 3 Daft Monkeys (http://www.3daftmonkeys.co.uk and http://www.myspace.com/3daftmonkeys) who play a mixture of western dance, gypsy folk music, celtic folk and Spanish folk.
Keep it flaming your desire, always rising higher - Aim for stars and hit the sky

haven't searched for this Eddie Vedder + Rahat Fateh Ali Khan tune for months and months...

but it's back up (SONY can kiss my a@*)

i think it's part of a "Dead Men Walking" concert, but is also part of a benefit for a good cause. the song is amazing. eddie vedder is as sexy as ever, his interchanges with Rahat (Nusrat's nephew who is carrying the torch) are spectacular.

if you hate it, fwd to just after seven minutes...they have a groove towards the end that is utterly amazing.
