what is the best breakup song you know of?
=) "let the right one in" by morrissey and "nowhere fast" smiths are good for a little feel better.
for a nice suicidal dose, it's always "i know it's over".
"there is a light that never goes out" just makes me want to die. because of the feelings that died between us. oh man >.<
so share your tragic songs with me! =)

Cool thread!
I've always loved break-up songs, they are simply captivating. <!--emo&-->Image<!--endemo--> Especially those that capture both the sadness and the feeling of inevitability of the break-up - and mix it with some yet-remaining longing...for what might have been.

So, this is the first one that comes to my mind:
This Love Affair by Rufus Wainwright - one of my all-time favourite songs, so simple, yet so deep:
So I guess that I'm going
I guess that I am walking
Where?
I don't know
Just away from this love affair

Also, Days by Kirsty MacColl, and basicly all of Maroon 5's album Songs About Jane - it's whole break-up album actaully <!--emo&:P-->Image<!--endemo--> , but I particualrly like Through With You, The Sun and Tangled.

Well, I'll think of others veyr soon, just not in my best form regarding concentration now...

I LOVE break up songs!!!

He Who Laughs Last- AFI
The Story of Nothing- The Aquabats
I Will Survive- Gloria Gayner
Train In Vain- The Clash
Boys Don't Cry- The Cure
Oxygen's Gone- Die Trying
Words That Kill- Die Trying
Ooh Way Ooh (I Don't Like You)- The Eyeliners
Love Will Tear Us Apart- Joy Division
Don't Want You- The Lunachicks
Saturday Night- The Misfits
Scotty Doesn't Know- Lustra
Can't Stand Losing You- The Police

I am sort of vindictive I guess, so most of those are punk break up victory style songs :-P
A note upon his desk
"P.S. Bring Me Home And Have Me!"
Leather elbows on a tweed coat
-Oh!-
Is THAT the best you can do ?
So came his reply :
"But on the desk is where I want you!"

Elvis-Seperate ways&You were always on your mind.

The worst thing about breakups I find is the thought that he or she doesn't care for you like he/she used to.

One of my fave later Bowie songs...

Survive

Oh my, naked eyes
I should have kept you
I should have tried
I should of been more wiser kind of guy
I miss you

Give me wings
Give me space
Give me money for a change of face
There's noisy rooms and passion pants
I loved you

Where's the morning in my life?
Where's the sense in staying right?
Who said time is on my side?
I got ears and eyes and nothing in my life
But I survive your naked eyes
I'll survive

You alone across the floor
You and me and nothing more
You're the great mistake I never made
I never lied to you
I hate it when you lied
But I'll survive your naked eyes
I'll survive

People boys all snowy white
Razzle dazzle clubs every night
Wished I'd sent a valentine
I loved you

I'll survive
Your naked eyes
I'll survive
No hope, No harm
Just another false alarm...
