Any other fans of Bauhaus here?

They are one of my favourite bands of all-time. I am into the gothic subculture, so it may sound a bit cliche, but Bauhaus are just a class band. They weren't just the pioneers, they set the standards and are still role models for every actual Goth band. The band brought a sort of music that was completely new (although influences from Bowie and Joy Division can be heard) and the imaginary used was also completely new. The band didn't take it all too serious and saw it as an act, but they did cause the rise of the Goth subculture.

Bela Lugosi's Dead is obviously their trademark and a legendary song overall, but other must-hears include She's In Parties, The Passion Of Lovers, In The Flat Field (a postpunk anthem), Hollow Hills, Burning From The Inside, Double Dare, All We Ever Wanted (Was Everything), Lagartija Nick, ... plus their excellent covers Ziggy Stardust and Telegram Sam.

The band reunited as a once-off for Coachella Festival last year, or so was the plan. However, they got the spark of darkness again and continued the reunion with a full tour, and this summer they're touring again. In Autumn the first Bauhaus studio album since 1983 is being recorded!

Regardless of the music (which is something you like or not), everyone should see Peter Murphy perform. He's one of the most charismatic frontmen alive, the look in his eyes aline is pure shivers... The man has an incredible charisma and stage personality: mysterious, a bit dark, yet sensual at the same time.

In the margins: I am attending Mera Luna festival this summer for Bauhaus, my second trip to Germany this year and both times it's especially to see Bauhaus (I attended their gig in Berlin already last February)

I don't like Nine Inch Nails, and I think it's an insult that Bauhaus have to open for them. The other way round would be a bit more logical, but guess one can't fight commerce... Luckily Bauhaus will be able to play an almost full set, then at least it's worth the efford. And guess it's good promotion for the forthcoming/upcoming new album!

I was planning to travel to London to see them on the Wireless Festival along with Depeche Mode and Goldfrapp. But they cancelled that because of the US tour with NIN. Because of the cancellation, I will now travel to Germany to see Bauhaus at the Mera Luna festival. BlutEngel is at the same festival, so that is much better than Depeche Mode and Goldfrapp B)

Where should one start? I mean, I have heard a couple of tunes but I haven't got an album yet... Really liked it!

This is pure gothness, one of the most horror-esque/doomiest sounds ever recorded:

Peter Murphy is so great and mysterious here... Yay, five more days and I'm seeing Bauhaus again live!

Re: Bauhaus

i heard the first couple of songs from the new album (since I am not good with torrents I haven't heard the new album yet in total, only some songs) and it is quite, well, not sure what to think. The songs sound good, but they sound different from the Bauhaus I was used to. Black Stone Heart for example sounds almost radio-friendly, totally different from the brooding darkness of the old Bauhaus. Also, Peter Murphy's voice sounds a bit less bombastic and dramatic. A few of the songs actually sound more like Peter's solo work than like Bauhaus. Luckily there is still Saved, which sounds as haunting and dramatic as some of the old songs like Burning From The Inside. I am curious to hear the total album now, in less than a month's time it will be in stores. I hope to hear some songs that really have that Bauhaus spirit, rather than an attempt to score some quick radio hits before splitting up for good.
