If you mean vector art, you actually use the pen tool to draw. Image

Must take bloody ages! And require some amount of artistic ability! Doesn't sound like my sort of thing....

You can trace, it's not too hard. I have no artistic ability at all and I'm on a graphic design course. Image

As stranger said, its just import a pic>new layer>pen tool. The pen tool is easy to get the hang of after a while. Just need some experience. Mine didnt take too long but i imagine the guy's above mine did...

I might have a go at that. Be on the lookout for horrific attempts, shortly.

Stranger- that forum design, is it actually a workable skin, or just a graphic? 'City Scape' is very cool- nice work Image

Hmmm nearly two years, although I havn't been using it properly for about eight months now. Doing college work seems to have made me lose my passion for leisurely graphics making. Image

_Stranger_, I am really impressed by your art. I loved 'LipstickLover'.

You should make a Truman Capote wallpaper! Image

Not really, to be honest I mostly learnt by trial and error and such like. The only tutorial site I know is http://www.good-tutorials.com

And I might make a Capote wallpaper sometime Image Bout time I did something! Image

Well i kind of guessed experience for most, but heres some frustating exceptions

Image

How the hell did you get the texture look in the background? Like the gory look with the scratches inside...

Image

Ok that image at the top of this is NOT trial and error. Its fantastic. I want to know how to do it...

and how did you make the cuts, and get them to look realistic in this

The textures on the wallpaper and the effects in the header of the website can be achieved through brushing, stock photo use and generally playing around with effects combined with that. Check out deviantart for brush sets, you can also make your own from your own photos etc. theres plenty of tutorials around for that.

The cuts were created again using a brush, and then using various blending/air brushing techniques to try and get them to look realistic.

Hope this helps, somewhat. Image
