Is Mr. Marr the best/most interesting/creative etc guitarist around today?

Not today! I just don't think he's that creative or emotionally provoking (The Healers had better improve with their next record.) With the Smiths, yes! My guitar-playing experience was limited to 7th grade lessons at school, but I have a pretty good ear for music. I love Marr's style and his approach to writing music, but I haven't followed any other quitarist to make a fair assessment. And I know there are lots of great quitarists out there. To me it's not about how fancy your fingerwork is or how loud a guitar's sound can make, it's about the melody or what key the music's in. I just happen to love Marr's style. Too bad there have been no interest on Johnny's guitars on Ebay posted recently. Too much money to spend on Johnny Marr perhaps?

I have to put my neck on the line, and say that Johnny Marr is not the greatest living guitarist. But at the same time, who is? I don`t think it`s an answerable question.

What I love about the Smiths is Marr`s bouncing, happy melodies (even in songs such as "Well I Wonder" which are offset with Morrissey`s lyrics.

Fantastic pairing. I just wish they`d gone on to make more music

It is a truly fantastic song, and one of my favourites (nice to see someone awake at this ungodly hour - my excuse is alcohol <!--emo&;)--><!--endemo--> ). I would really love to see The Smiths reform for just one gig.

I would say that he is the best mostly by default, I mean, Hendrix is dead, and Santana stopped doing it for me a while ago, he is just of a higher calibur than anyone else out there, mostly because he is so completely different from anything else, his style is just heart breakingly beautiful *sighs* <!--emo&:)--><!--endemo-->

no, not even close. Moz was Marr's muse but he failed to see it and walked away. since then his career has been stale and im sure he regrets ever breaking up the band.

A bit off topic, but how about the rumours floating around about Johnny and Morrissey leaving a recording studio together in L.A? Why do I bother reading these things that will probably amount to nothing! And the rumour that Morrissey was seen jogging past Marr's house in Stretford. No date or source given, so perhaps more fuel being fed to the fire. How about a new record Johnny!

Ha, yeah, did you see that on Morrissey-solo? Not quite sure how Moz jogging past Johnny's house means a collaboration, I guess people just like to link random things because they hope something will happen and/or wind up us fans. I should probably ignore these kinda things because I'll just get my hopes up, only to be severely disappointed when nothing happens! There were all those rumours about Johnny guesting on Morrissey's current tour as well, which really proved to be true... <!--emo&:huh:--><!--endemo-->

Nick Zinner From the Yeah Yeah Yeah's

Their records tend to be a little patchy but his style is incredibly inventive (See Maps, Turn Into). Mr. Jack White deserves a mention too.

Zimmer has a really incredible sound as well. I think it is just really compressed or something, but it sounds awesome!
